Actor Leslie Nielsen Dead at 84

Legendary funny man Leslie Nielsen died today of complications of pneumonia in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, this according to his agent. He was 84.
His agent tells TMZ Nielsen passed surrounded by his wife and friends at about 5:34 PM ET.

Nielsen was best known for his roles in "Airplane" and the "Naked Gun" series. His "Airplane" co-star, Barbara Billingsley, passed away last month.

'Ugly Betty' Actor In Custody In Samurai Sword Killing

An actor who appeared on "Ugly Betty" was taken into custody in Brooklyn this morning for allegedly killing his mother with a 3-foot long samurai sword while screaming biblical passages.
According to the police, the suspect -- Michael Brea -- sliced his mother's head off during the attack.

When cops arrived to the scene around 2:20 AM, officers say Brea was clutching the bible. Cops ultimately had to use a taser to subdue the actor. Brea was taken to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation with a police escort.

Police claim the scene was "extremely bloody."

A neighbor told WPIX 11, "I hear the brother chasing her [his mother] through the house and he's just saying a bunch of [Bible] passages like, 'Repent, Repent, Repent.'"

The neighbor continued, "I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911."

Brea has not been formally arrested or charged yet.

UPDATE: We're told Brea will be turned over to the NYPD once his psychiatric evaluation is complete.

Cambodia Stampede: Water Festival Surge Kills Dozens

The death toll from a stampede at a Cambodian festival has risen to 345, the country's official news agency said Tuesday.
In addition to the deaths, another 391 people were injured at the annual Water Festival in the capital city of Phnom Penh on Monday, the AKP news agency said.

Cambodia has declared Thursday a national day of mourning for those who died in the crush, AKP reported. The country has also set up a commission to look into the incident.

The three-day festival, which began Saturday, is held each November near the palace to honor a victory by Cambodian naval forces during the 12th-century reign of King Jayvarman VII, according to the country's tourism website.

During the festival, which includes boat races, participants pray for a good rice harvest, enough rain and celebrate the full moon, the site says.
Visalsok Nou, a Cambodian Embassy official in Washington, said more than 4 million people were attending the Water Festival when the stampede occurred.
The municipal police chief said that the stampede, which began around 10 p.m. (10 a.m. ET), likely occurred because a suspension bridge packed with people began to sway, creating panic, said Philip Bader, a news editor with the Phnom Penh Post newspaper.
Steve Finch, a journalist with the newspaper, said police began firing water cannons onto a bridge to an island in the center of a river in an effort to get them to continue moving across the bridge.
"That just caused complete and utter panic," he told CNN in a telephone interview.
He said a number of people lost consciousness and fell into the water,

Vince Young Has Post-Game Meltdown

After the Tennessee Titans lost in overtime to the Washington Redskins, Titans Quarterback, Vince Young had an altercation with coach Jeff Fischer and threw his jersey and shoulder pads into the stands. Reports say Young was upset that Fischer pulled him from the game after he suffered a thumb injury.

The Tennessian reported that during the post game team meeting Young was cursing under his breath when Fischer asked him to be quiet. Young then left and Fischer told him not to run out on his teammates to which Young replied:

There are reports that Vince Young got into a shoving match with Titans’ safety, Michael Griffin, who chased Young in his underwear and asked Vince to return to the team.

Richard Seymour Punch Lands On Ben Roethlisberger

The Richard Seymour punch did little to help the Raiders yesterday. In fact, the Richard Seymour punch could hurt the Raiders more down the line if he faces additional punishment. The incident symbolized Oakland's
frustration, as they had a chance to prove their surprise 5-4 record was truly for real. Yet against an established Super Bowl contender in Pittsburgh, they were manhandled in a 35-3 loss. The frustration boiled over as early as the second quarter, as Seymour threw a punch at Ben Roethlisberger after a back-breaking touchdown.

The Steelers had gone up 14-3 by the late second quarter, but the game was still somewhat in range. Yet, after Roethlisberger threw another touchdown to put them up 21-3, the outcome seemed all but decided by then.

At that point, the punch was thrown, after he and Roethlisberger got into it following the touchdown. The Raiders' defensive end said that Roethlisberger "ran up on me" as he did appear to say something before getting punched.

Seymour was quickly ejected, leaving the Raiders even more shorthanded the rest of the way. Their 35-3 defeat brought harsh reality onto one of the NFL's most surprising starts. The talk of a Raiders revival was halted for a week, as they lost first place in the AFC West to the Chiefs.

The aftermath of Seymour's hit should bring a heavy fine, at the least. But the calls for his suspension have begun, particularly from the Steelers' James Harrison. All year, Harrison has been in trouble for hard hits, so therefore, he stated that the NFL should be much harder on someone who threw an actual punch.

In some circles, Seymour isn't getting laid into as hard because he punched Roethlisberger. The Steelers' quarterback is still unpopular for his off-field legal problems, so those who still hate him may have been pleased. In any case, no one knows yet what Roethlisberger said to set Seymour off, if anything.

It should be a day or two before punishment for the punch comes down from Roger Goodell. For the moment, the Raiders are still counting on him to play against Miami next week.

The 22-year-old comedian had been attending his girlfriend’s baby shower and was shot around 8pm. No motive has been determined as yet although various reports indicate he had been “busting someone’s balls”.

Rightly so, many news sites this morning are in uproar about the indignity Messy Mya must suffer, even in death, because heartless individuals have their own sensationalist agendas. By publishing those photos they have not only trivialised his death but also caused more pain for his family.

It is thought that the first pictures were linked on Twitter and were subsequently “retweeted” countless times. Twitter have since deleted the images from people’s home pages.

The internet is fairly well policed these days, unlike the early days when almost any information was available, US governors wish to see an even bigger increase in censorship through the Internet Blacklist bill. At first look, the possibility of Marie Osmond plastic surgery didn’t come to mind. Regarding her appearance, she looked beautiful, and more viewers were more focused on Osmond talking about the death of her son and the emotional journey she’s been through.


She does, however, look like maybe she’s had a bit of plastic surgery, most notably, on her very plump lips.

Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist, Dr. Paul S. Nassif, noted in 2009 that “Marie Osmond appears to have had a browlift, as her brows are arched up quite a bit. A facelift is a good possibility as well, and facial fillers and Botox are very likely as there are not many lines present on her face.”

Based on her appearance on Oprah, it looks like she has most likely had lip injections, but beyond that, it’s hard to say.

It may be the heavy makeup she was wearing that made people speculate about plastic surgery.

Mystery Missile Launch California Caught On Video

Last night the sky in southern California was lit up by what appears to be a missile. The event was captured on video taken from a news helicopter from a major television network.

Was the military testing some new weapons off the California coast? The Pentagon says that there was no testing going on in the area by any of the local military bases. The United States government is not really sure what the flying object was, or who may have launched it into the air last night. The United States Defense Department, and others, have said that the object did not appear to be a military type projectile.

Some say that the object may even be an airplane. The event that transpired is being labeled as “unexplained” by officials. It is not being considered as a threat. A jet plane leaves behind it a contrail. A contrail is a trail of condensed water vapor that can be seen coming out of the jet engine. This could be misconstrued as a missile trail. Others have said that the object was moving too slowly to be a missile.

MSNBC wants to “Lean Forward” – but apparently not that far forward.

Keith Olbermann’s suspension over three donations to Democrats prompted an outcry from across the blogosphere Friday as writers from the liberal Daily Kos to the conservative Weekly Standard criticized the move.
They agreed about one thing: It didn’t seem fair that MSNBC had so quickly and severely punished its flagship personality over something that seemed quite in line with what he did on the air five days a week: support liberal candidates and causes.

Olbermann’s decision to give embattled Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva six appearances in about six months was worth thousands of dollars in free media exposure, for instance. How is that different, these bloggers ask, than Olbermann’s $2,400 check to Grijalva, cut five days before the election?

The debate throws into sharp relief the difficult balancing act that MSNBC has been trying to pull off with its new identity. On one hand, the network has aggressively moved to court progressives with its new branding campaign “Lean Forward” and eyebrow-raising decisions like assigning an all-liberal panel to cover the midterm election results Tuesday.

But on the other, it remains tightly bound to its straight-news network sibling NBC, with which it shares both talent and management, and for which its liberal identity is a cause of concern.

This tension was particularly visible last month when MSNBC launched its new slogan and branding campaign. Even amidst a grand roll-out of the new theme, MSNBC President Phil Griffin was reluctant to own the cable network’s ideological turf.

“I don’t think we are overtly left,” he told POLITICO at the time. “We have a progressive sensibility, but that embraces a lot.” He said that viewers were smart enough to understand that opinionated hosts like Rachel Maddow are playing a different role than straight news journalists like David Gregory.

Two days later, an internal memo was leaked to the New York Times showing that the new tagline had worried the leadership at msnbc.com, a separate company, which considered itself an “impartial news product” and was worried about “misalignment” of the brand.

On Friday, Griffin said he suspended Olbermann over the three donations, first reported by POLITICO, while being “mindful of NBC News policy and standards.” Those standards require that staff report “potential conflicts” that might threaten their status as an “impartial journalist” to their boss before doing them.

But bloggers almost immediately began poking holes in this case. No one – not Olbermann, not MSNBC – pretends the ex-ESPN anchor is an “impartial journalist.” Not only that, MSNBC had seemed to bend this rule before, saying MSNBC’s opinionated talent had been exempted from NBC standards to attend Jon Stewart’s rally, a liberal love-fest.

And several people seized upon donations by MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, who recently became a POLITICO columnist, as evidence that MSNBC was using a double standard in dealing with the former Republican congressman. (MNSBC has since said that Scarborough’s 2006 campaign donations were cleared by his boss beforehand, which is allowed under the rules, and Scarborough’s co-host said a more recent contribution was actually by his wife.)

Greg Sargent, blogging at the Washington Post, began parsing the ethics policy, arguing that since Olbermann never purported to be an “impartial journalist,” he hardly risked being subject to “potential conflicts.”

Cuba Plane Crash

Cuban authorities say there are no survivors after a state airliner carrying 40 Cubans and 28 foreigners crashed in a fireball on the island's central mountains.

AeroCaribbean Flight 883 was en route from the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba to the capital city of Havana when it lost contact with air traffic controllers and went down Thursday evening in mountains near the village of Guasimal. State media said the pilot issued an emergency call just before contact was severed.
Cuba's civil aviation authority announced today that there were no survivors. A government website published a list of the 61 passengers and seven crew members who died. It lists the names of 28 foreigners, including nine Argentines, seven Mexicans, three Dutch citizens, two Germans, two Austrians, a Spaniard, a Frenchman, an Italian, a Japanese citizen and a Venezuelan. All seven crew members were Cuban.

State media published photos of the plane's wreckage on fire deep in a thick forest, with Cuban officials in olive military fatigues milling around it. The jet's model number, CU-T15, can be seen amid the flames. Another photo shows workers operating a bulldozer cutting through thick brush to reach the disaster site.

After the plane crashed at 5:42 p.m. local time, medical facilities in the area were put on alert for multiple casualties. But by midnight they were told to stand down once authorities realized there were no survivors.

Flight 883 flies twice a week from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Havana, stopping in Santiago de Cuba. It was due to land in the Cuban capital at 7:50 p.m., Al-Jazeera reported. The plane was a Russian-made ATR-72-212 belonging to Cuba's state airline.

The plane was one of the last to take off from Haiti ahead of Tropical Storm Tomas, which is swirling in the Caribbean and forecast to hit Haiti this weekend. Cuban authorities say that the cause of the crash is under investigation, and that it's too soon to tell if weather played a factor.

This is Cuba's worst plane crash since 1989, when a Soviet-made Ilyushin-62M crashed after takeoff from Havana, killing all 126 people aboard, according to Reuters.

However, it appears that Lil Wayne is now out of jail officially, with his celebratory party to come in Miami this weekend.

In March, the rap star was sentenced to a year-long prison term for having a loaded gun on his tour bus. But he stayed busy, as his latest album was released in the meantime. Due to good behavior in other areas, his time was ultimately cut short.

Therefore, Rikers released Lil Wayne this morning, although there were some problems near the end. He spent the last month of his sentence in solitary because he had a contraband charger and headphones. In addition, there were reports in the early morning that his time was "miscalculated" and he would have to serve another night for an infraction.

10-year-old girl, Gives Birth In Southern Spain

10-year-old girl has given birth in southern Spain and authorities are evaluating whether to let her and her family retain custody of the baby, an official said Tuesday. The baby was born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, said Micaela Navarro, the Andalusia region's social affairs minister.

Navarro told reporters the father of the baby is also a minor, and both the mother and the baby were in good health. Her department declined to give details, including the sex of the baby, but said authorities do not consider this a case of rape and that no criminal investigation is under way.

Under Spanish law, having consensual sex with someone under age 13 is classified as child abuse, an official with the Spanish Justice Ministry in Madrid said. But this particular case is complicated by the fact that the father of the baby is also a minor and it is not clear if he could be charged, the official said.

Lion King Actress Shannon Tavarez Dies at 11

Shannon Tavarez, the 11-year-old who starred on Broadway in “The Lion King” and whose battle with leukemia won the hearts of many, including Alicia Keys, Rihanna and 50 Cent, has died.

Shannon Tavarez died Monday afternoon at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, on Long Island, said Katharina Harf, co-founder of the bone marrow donor center DKMS.
Adriana Douzos, a spokeswoman for the long-running, Tony winning show, also confirmed the death but declined further comment.
Tavarez, who played the young lion Nala, had received an umbilical-cord blood transplant in August. The procedure was performed as an alternative to a bone marrow transplant. Her doctor, Dr. Larry Wolfe, said that a perfect bone marrow match for Shannon could not be found.

The search for a match was especially daunting because Shannon’s mother is African-American and her father is Hispanic, from the Dominican Republic. For bone marrow transplants, minorities and those of mixed ancestry have a more difficult time finding good matches because there aren’t as many people from those groups signed up as potential donors. Right now, 83 percent of African-American patients who need marrow transplants don’t find matches after six months of searching, according to the National Marrow Donor Program, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping patients receive transplants.
Tavarez was forced to quit the show in April. She beat out hundreds of other hopefuls last year to earn her spot playing Nala, the childhood pal and girlfriend of Simba, hero of “The Lion King.” She split the role with another girl, performing four shows a week for six months.
