Tesoro Refinery fire Explosion Video


The explosion at the refinery occured around 12.40am US Pacific Coast time, local media said.Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the massive explosion that rattled buildings for many miles around.Three people were killed and four critically injured in an explosion early today at the Tesoro Corp. refinery in Anacortes.

The fire had burned a reformer unit at 12:30 PT (0730 GMT) in units of highly flammable naphtha
Witnesses in Anacortes said they hear what they thought was a “sonic boom” and could see thick black smoke and massive flame rising into the dark early morning sky
People in Anacortes said they saw Ambulances speeding through Anacortes toward hospitals from the refinery.
While the four victims who suffered serious injuries had been flown to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center is located approximately 70 miles from the refinery.
Tesoro says the fire has claimed one life. A search is underway for the three missing workers. Tesoro human resources manager John McDarment said four workers were taken to hospitals. Their conditions are not known.
Four medical helicopters flew in to help the injured while the Skagit County Fire Department and Anacortes Fire Department went to fight a fire after the blast at 12:40 a.m.”
Washington Department of Labor and Industry and local air districts have been notified about the incident, the company said.
