Best Actress Winner 2010 Sandra Bullock Completes Historic Year

The Best Actress winner 2010 was not put anywhere near contention months ago. But the Best Actress winner emerged from nearly nowhere to win, much like the other acting winners. Jeff Bridges emerged at the last minute to dominate while Christoph Waltz and Mo'Nique were not on any radars until last year's film festivals. But for Sandra Bullock, she had been completely absent for a few years and was rarely thought of as Oscar caliber before that. That changed when she became the Best Actress winner 2010, completing one of the biggest years in recent memory.

Bullock started 2009 with three films on her table after taking a few years off. Her movies truly ran the gamut, reaching the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It all began with "The Proposal," which became her biggest box office success to date due to her comic chemistry with Ryan Reynolds.

However, the future Best Actress winner nearly forfeited all her good will months later, when "All About Steve" got released in September. Bullock got the worst reviews of her career as she played one of the most despised movie characters of the year in obsessed stalker Mary. She was proclaimed as more Razzie worthy than Oscar worthy, and it would take a major hit to fix the damage.

That hit came with "The Blind Side," which almost no one saw coming. The true life story of Michael Oher and adoptive mother Leigh Ann Tuohy was well known, yet few expected the movie version to make $250 million. Thanks to the raves for Bullock, and the tear-jerking true story, it became the sleeper hit of the fall - yet few thought it would make her the Best Actress winner 2010.

Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Gabourey Sidibe looked to be the frontrunners early on. However, as "The Blind Side" box office kept climbing, Bullock inched her way into the race. She looked to just be fighting to get in, until she won the Critics Choice and Golden Globe in January. Afterward, Bullock pulled ahead and didn't stop until her win last night.
