Olsen’s life was one color, beginning in his hometown of Logan, Utah, to Utah State University, where he was in school the best interior lineman and won a foreigner to prove it. He joined the Los Angeles Rams in 1962 and were wearing their uniforms for 15 years before retiring. While playing for the Rams, and received a master’s degree in economics.
In 1977, shortly after his retirement from football, Olsen took his 6 feet 5 inches and time frame for the airwaves as a commentator for NBC’s football programs for professionals and the Rose Bowl. He also dealt with other roles, including starring in a series of its own, “Father Murphy” playing the character Jonathan Garvey on NBC’s “Little House on the Prairie”, and to serve as spokesman for FTD florists in commercials.

One role is more that he could deal with mesothelioma. This is a rare form of cancer in the cancer cells that grow in the mesothelium, the protective sac that covers most of the body’s internal organs. According to the National Cancer Institute, only about 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the United States each year. Although it appears that in many cases, more than men, and increases the risk with age, and can develop this type of cancer in either sex at any age.
Mesothelium has different names, depending on the place which is in the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura (the membranes that surround the lungs and line the chest cavity wall) or peritoneum (membrane in the abdominal cavity).
The major risk factor for mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. Between 70 to 80 percent of people who have mesothelioma have suffered these industrial materials that were used in everything from the root plate to textiles, insulation and brake linings, and cement. In the rest of the patients, usually the cause is unknown.
The risk of developing asbestos-related lung disease increases with increased exposure to these materials, but some people develop cancer even if they had only brief exposure to asbestos. However, not all those who were heavily exposed to asbestos-related disease development.
Merlin Olsen visited the University of Utah in December, December 2009, during the halftime ceremony of the game of basketball in the school announced that it was the allocation of the football field at its stadium, as Romney Merlin Olsen Field in 2010. Olsen was a patient at the time, to the extent that he failed in St. Louis Rams home game in the same month of generosity.
Merlin Olsen was taken by mesothelioma, but leaves behind a long series of memories and awards, including access to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1980, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982, and NFL most valuable player in 1974, according to the selection of the Maxwell Club in Philadelphia, and shall be voted in the Pro Bowl 14 of his 15 years with the Rams.
