Stephanie Birkitt-Robert Halderman Blackmail Case UPDATE

Tuesday, Robert “Joe” Halderman, a former CBS producer, pleaded guilty in a Manhattan court to grand larceny in connection with an attempt to blackmail talk show host David Letterman. Tuesday night, Letterman, as you might expect, had something to say about that.
“I need to talk to you about a segment of my life here that began six months ago,” Letterman said on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” ” I found myself in some legal trouble, and pretty quickly, it was turned over to the District Attorney’s office here in Manhattan.”
Halderman, an Emmy-winning newsman, had tried to exhort $2 million from Letterman last September by threatening to reveal the talk show host’s rumored affair with former staffer — and one-time Halderman girlfriend — Stephanie Birkitt. Halderman was sentenced to serve six months in jail, along with 1,000 hours of community service and four years of probation.
On his show, Letterman said that when the case came up “I was concerned and full of anxiety and nervous and worried. And the people in the District Attorney’s office said, ‘This will be handled professionally, this will be handled skillfully, and appropriately.’”
The talk show host then said “Well, the matter was resolved today, and they were exactly right – it was handled professionally, skillfully and appropriately.”
