Sumatra Earthquake 2010 – Indonesia Earthquake 7.7 April 2010. Yesterday a 7.7 earthquake rattled Indonesia, and is the latest earthquake yet. This earthquake is so powerful that it has spawned tsunami alerts around the area, including in Thailand. It was initially reported as a 7.8 earthquake, but updates came through indicating otherwise.
In late February, an earthquake hit Chile and caused a tsunami in Hawaii. Luckily, the wave didn’t do any damage to property or cause any casualties.
Marketwatch reports a 7.7 earthquake, whereas other news sources have the magnitude set at 7.2. No matter what, it was a strong quake and not one that should be overlooked.
There was an earthquake in Baja California Mexicali California on Easter Sunday. The quake was felt as far away as Las Vegas in Nevada. Back in 2004, a 9.1 quake hit the same area, and this part of the world is no stranger to quakes.
