The former governor of Nevada, Kenny Guinn, has died after sustaining injuries in a fall from his roof.

Although a family friend confirmed to CNN that Guinn died after the fall, The Clark County Coroner did not confirm a cause of death. An autopsy for Guinn, who was 73, is scheduled for tomorrow. The former governor was first elected in 1998, and re-elected in 2002.

Tim Pawlenty, Vice Chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association (of which Guinn was Chairman in 2004-2005) released the following statement in response to Guinn’s sudden death:

“Kenny Guinn was that rare type of politician – a true statesman – who had the respect and admiration of all his colleagues. He had a warm and gentle nature, and always put the people of Nevada first. He will be remembered as one of the finest governors in the history of the state.

Kenny was a true friend and will be missed by the many of us who were privileged to know him.

His wife, Dema, and sons, Steve and Jeff, are in the hearts and prayers of all of us.”
