It was always Evan vs. Nicole. Throughout season 10 of 'Dancing With the Stars,' the Olympic skating champion and the pop singer were neck and neck atop the leaderboard.
In the end, though, Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough triumphed, leaving Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya with silver. ESPN sports reporter Erin Andrews and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy placed third."Everybody's been amazing, I'm so happy," said Hough, now a two-time winner, while Scherzinger simply screamed in glee.
Lysacek showed gracious sportsmanship in defeat. "It's been such a blast. We were totally satisfied with everything we gave in these last few weeks," he said. "And we're so proud of Nicole and Derek. They worked so hard and they deserve it."
Eliminated during the show, Andrews was emotional about the impact of the show on her life. "I came here under really crummy circumstances, and I just wanted to get my life together and my smile back," Andrews told host Tom Bergeron. "I just wanted to be myself again ... and you guys have been amazing and my family -- and this one [Maksim] -- has just put my life back together."
The three finalist couples each chose to reprise an Argentine tango from earlier in the season. The judges ranked them, and those scores were added to Monday night's performances as well as the viewers' votes.
In the Argentine stand-off, Scherzinger and Hough received the top ranking. "You guys are truly artistry in motion," judge Carrie Ann Inaba declared of Scherzinger and Derek Hough.
Then, Scherzinger and Lysacek each danced again. The final scores had the Pussycat Doll leading 115-108.
Season 10's cast -- from a bedazzled Buzz Aldrin to Pam Anderson -- returned to dance again. (Fourth-place finisher Chad Ochocinco had sit out due to a football injury.) 'The Bachelor' star Jake Pavelka and fiance Vienna Girardi brought their romance to this show with a waltz, while reality TV mom Kate Gosselin performed her infamous 'Paparazzi' dance with partner Tony Dovolani.
The star-studded audience included former champions Kelly Monaco (season 1); Apolo Anton Ohno (season 4); Kristi Yamaguchi (season 6); and Shawn Johnson (season 8).
